This is my funny story! I am currently at Syracuse University working
on my MLA in School Media and I am also the Children's Room Coordinator
at the Oswego Public Library. I am going to be doing my high school fieldwork
in Pulaski, NY.
I planned to have a Chinese New Year's Party in February
2007 at the Oswego Public Library for the community and 2007 is "The
Year of The Pig". Monique Frey, an English Teacher at Pulaski Jr/Sr
High School actually owns a pot-bellied pig and brought it our party. The
Oswego Daily News (oswegodailynews.com) is an online local news source
that reported and covered the activities at our party and posted this online.
It was great fun.
One month later I received a call at the Oswego Public
Library from a George Eberhart who said he was from the ALA. At first I
did not believe him and thought he was a salesman. Actually, he does work
for the ALA and wanted to put our Chinese New Year's story in the April
2007 ALA magazine and on the e-mail edition of their newsletter. This actually
happened! I was shocked.
I asked how he found out about our party and he
told me that the ALA actually has people search the web for library news
of interest all over the US and he found our story. To think, I thought
he was a salesman on the phone and almost hung up!
